Paul Davis, the Kansas Democrat who wants to replace Sam Brownback, raised $1 million in 2013

Longtime Lawrence politician Paul Davis closed out 2013 with barely more than $1 million going to his campaign coffers in his bid to make Sam Brownback a one-term Kansas governor.

Brownback has yet to file his 2013 report, although it's certain that he has raised more money than his challenger. A Brownback spokesman told The Topeka Capital-Journal that Brownback expects to fetch between $4 million and $6 million during this campaign.

Davis' contributions, not surprisingly, come largely from the few Kansas areas where Democrats exist in large numbers: Lawrence, Wichita, Johnson County and Kansas City, Kansas.

The following are Davis' higher-profile Kansas City-area donors:

* Tom McDonnell, former DST Systems CEO and current Kauffman Foundation president ($2,000)

* Barbara Atkinson, former executive vice chancellor at the University of Kansas Medical Center ($2,000)

* Steve Six, former Kansas attorney general and current Kansas City attorney ($1,000)

* Cindy Neighbor, Shawnee Mission School District board member and former Kansas Republican representative who became a Democrat after she grew tired of GOP policies ($500)

* Neil Sader, Kansas City lawyer and Democratic activist ($500)

* Michael Ketchmark, Leawood plaintiff's attorney whose law firm also donated $2,000 to Davis ($2,000)

* Greg Wolf, litigation lawyer and Johnson County Democratic activist ($500)

* Megan England, Roeland Park City Council ($300)

* Janet Waugh, Kansas Board of Education ($100)

* Steve Sparks, corporate lawyer for Bryan Cave ($1,000)

* Doug Compton, Lawrence apartment developer and booster for University of Kansas athletics ($2,000)

* Marvin Rainey, longtime Johnson County lawyer ($250)

* Larry Gates, Overland Park lawyer and Democratic activist ($2,000)

* Bunni Copaken, wife of local real-estate mogul Paul Copaken ($1,000)
