The International Folk Alliance Conference & Winter Music Camp comes to KC February 19-23. To get you geared up for the folk blowout, every day we're posting a song we like by one of the event's showcase artists.
The Sweet Lowdown is a trio of sweet-singing bluegrass gals from Victoria, B.C. On the group's 2012 full-length May
, guitarist Amanda Blied, banjo player Shanti Bremer and fiddler Miriam Sonstenes delivered a rootsy, rustic batch of songs that strike an inviting balance, lending a fresh take on old-time front-porch jangles. The real power in the Sweet Lowdown, though, are the dulcet three-part harmonies that Blied, Bremer and Sonstences create - as alluring and sumptuous as a hot summer day spent at a crystalline lake.
