Iowa State fans flocked to Kansas City this weekend to witness Fred Hoiberg's Cyclones basketball squad capture the school's second Big 12 Tournament Championship. It had been 14 years since the Cyclones swept through the tourney.
The Power & Light District was flooded with cardinal and gold colors, especially on Saturday, as the Cyclones, coming off a semifinal win over the Kansas Jayhawks, prepared to play the Baylor Bears in the title game.
And some of those fans may be making a return trip to KC later this year as Iowa State headlines the 2014 CBE Classic at the Sprint Center November 24-25. Also taking part in the two-day, four-team tournament are Alabama, Arizona State and Maryland.
Pairings have yet to be announced, but the Cyclones and Sun Devils are likely the favorites coming in. Both are NCAA Tournament teams with Iowa State earning a No. 3 seed and the Sun Devils sitting on a No. 10 line.
Officials have to be hoping for a repeat of Saturday night when Cyclones fans filled up the Sprint Center.
My poor iPhone photography from the upper deck doesn't do justice to how many Iowa Staters made the trip to see Saturday's 74-65 comeback victory over the Bears in the championship game. Attendance was listed at 19,108 for the finale (via ESPN). Or in Thursday's opener against Kansas State or Friday's matchup with Kansas.
