We took a look, a few months back, at local producers of locally themed duds. One was Normal Human, a shop from Dan Mahaney and Pat Egger that specializes in original, handmade screen prints on apparel and housewares. Among its designs are shirts with archery arrows aligned to form the state of Missouri (a nod to the state's Native American history); the word "Stateline"; wheat and stars alongside the letters "K" and "C"; and an "Ad Aspera" design for those who want to show off their Sunflower State pride.

Started up three years ago, the Normal Human operation has been based in downtown Mission. But next month, it'll cross State Line and set up shop in Westport.

The new address is 827 Westport Road, former home of Spivey's Books and Maps, which closed in 2011. "Our space in Mission, KS provided a great opportunity for us to find our footing, but its lack of pedestrian traffic is not particularly beneficial for the retail aspect of our operation," Mahaney says in a post about the move at the Normal Human site. They looked at the Crossroads (where Normal Human does regular pop-ups during First Fridays) but found that the Westport space was more cost-effective and offered the foot-traffic exposure they were looking for.

The move-in date is May 1, but Mahaney and Egger anticipate it'll be a few weeks before things are fully up and running at the new location. "If you see us there, though, feel free to stop in just to say "hi" and check out the new space, or to lend a helping hand, if you're so inclined," Mahaney says.
