There has become a growing trend in the music scene in America which has spawned the rise of massive, multi-day festivals all across the country. Each year some of the biggest festivals in the world take place in America like Bonnaroo, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Lollapalooza and Ultra Music Festiva. One that may not be as big or as widely known as those that and deserves some attention is the Essence Music Festival.
First taking place in 1995 as the brainchild of founder of Essence Magazine, a magazine primarily for African-American women, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the magazine. Essence Music Festival, locally known as Essence Fest, takes place every July in New Orleans at the Mercedes Benz Superdome over the span of three days and has a fantastic lineup. New Orleans is a city with its own unique vibe and culture, so too is the Essence Music Festival which has a one of a kind atmosphere combining music and motivational speakers with high fashion and art. At most festivals, attendees usually dress comfortable but Essence is not most festivals as there you will see concert goers decked out in their Sunday best
While all that is great, its the lineup that really gets people excited as some of the artists at this years Essence Fest will include the iconic Prince, Mary J. Blige, Lionel Richie, Naughty By Nature, 112 and Eve just to name a few while there will be great speakers like the venerable Rev. Al Sharpton, Alicia Keys and Yolanda Adams.
Just recently Essence Fest has added some big name performers to the festival like rapper Nas, R&B singer Trey Songz and speaker Iyanla Vanzant whom you may know from her show "Iyanla Fix My Life" which airs on Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network. Essence may be the only festival wherein they will have motivational speakers take the stage and talk to those in attendance, giving life lessons to them even having the distinguished President Barack Obama grace the festival with his presence one year.
Presently, Essence Music Festival tickets
are averaging $349 on the secondary market for a three day pass to the festival while having a Get-in price of $91. Single day tickets are available with the first day of the festival going for $197 on the resale market, the second day of Essence clocks in at $231 and the third and final day rounding out the single day tickets with an average of $172 per ticket. However if you don't mind being a little farther away from the stage you can Get-in to Essence Fest for the first day for just $81 and $65 for each of the final two days of the event. If you do plan on making the trip out to New Orleans for the Essence Fest it will certainly be a great experience but remember to dress to impress.
