Ethnic Enrichment Festival Swope Park
A Kansas City tradition for more than 20 years, the free Ethnic Enrichment Festival is a delight for the senses, with music and dance performances going on while the smell of barbecue and spices floats all around. The food is the main attraction; with vendors representing nearly 40 countries (including African-American and Native American) selling their delicacies at reasonable prices, it's a great chance to try as many different items as possible, such as fried plantains from Haiti, donar kebabs from Turkey, or huge coconut macaroons from Israel. And plenty of craftsmen offer intriguing highlights from their cultures, such as henna tattooing in elaborate patterns at the India and Pakistan booths. Next year's festival is scheduled for August 17 through 19.
