Rosedale Barbecue
When this place opened during the Great Depression, the fragrant barbecued ribs, beef, and chicken were the kind of solid, inexpensive country-style staples that Kansas Citians drove from all over town to eat. The oldest barbecue joint in the city, Rosedale Barbecue is still a destination spot -- not just because it's clean, or the service is fast and the prices are still reasonable, but also because the beef sandwiches are incredibly tender, the ribs smoky and luscious, the chicken juicy, and the french fries crunchy and hot. The combo deluxe plate, about $10, is a giant pile of ham, beef, ribs, baked beans, cole slaw, and three pieces of white bread. Add a cold grape soda or RC Cola for sheer culinary perfection.
