Lil' Jake's Eat It and Beat It could easily take top prize in several Best of Kansas City categories. The restaurant's Southern-style ribs have been known to make mouths water like a Rain Bird sprinkler. Its charbroiled chicken is juicier than the plot of a pulp-fiction novel. Best of the best, however, is Lil' Jake's beef sandwich. Served on an open-faced white-bread bun, this KC treasure is piled with thick slices of meat that are absolutely gorgeous -- lightly charred around the edge and tender on the inside -- and topped with a spoonful of Jake's sauce (with a handful of pickles on the side). And this sandwich gets points for staying together in your hands. If friends are visiting from out of town, tell them to come on a weekday; Lil' Jake's is closed on weekends.
