The Kansas City (Humana River Crown Plaza) Marathon
In January 2001, this place ceased being a real city when Kansas City Power and Light pulled the plug on the Rib Run. For several months, this was the largest American town without a 26.2-mile running race. But by the end of that year, Humana had stepped forward to sponsor a revival: the Humana River Crown Plaza Marathon. It's better than ever. Instead of the redundant double-loop course of years past, this will be a full tour of all the requisite landmarks: Union Station, Liberty Memorial, the Plaza, Crown Center, 18th and Vine and Berkley Park. And it's on Saturday, November 2, so runners won't have to miss out on watching real football on TV that Sunday during the Chiefs' bye week.
