Screenland Theatre 1656 Washington · 816-421-2900
Built in 1913 as a cold-storage facility, Butch Rigby's plush Screenland Theatre reopened its doors to the public in July, showcasing newly renovated offices, an events center and a fantastic, state-of-the-art, 150-seat movie theater. It's the new home of the kitschy Chucky Lou A/V Club and myriad independent feature and short films that otherwise wouldn't get screen time in KC. Situated on the borders of the Crossroads and Film Row, its hip locale draws a diverse crowd. The biggest draw, however, is the front row -- 12 cushy, red-leather recliners for major VIPs ... or, um, whoever arrives first.
