Best Bike Shop
The Trek Store
The Trek Store rules because it's stocked for gearheads but staffed by men and women who can translate tech-speak into lay terms. "The majority of our customers are everyday guys who want to ride a bike, and that's who works here," says Stacey Hallman, the store's manager. These are the same pedal pushers dusting trails at Minor Park, skimming the asphalt in Prairie Village or guzzling brews at the Blue Moose after a Thursday ride. Of course, it's neat that Trek sells the Medone, the same bike Lance Armstrong used to win both his sixth and seventh Tours de France. And for those who would dis the corporate giant, know this: It is the corporate giant that can sometimes offer low-interest financing for such expensive toys. Need to fix a flat? No problem. Need winter gear? It's consistently in stock at all price points in a variety of choices, from Nike to Pearl Izumi. The store is centrally located to hit rides in midtown, Overland Park and KCK, and sponsors a handful of local rides and race teams. But it's the employees who keep the Trek Store functioning like a friendly pit stop.
