Best Action Hero

Santiago Vasquez
Santiago Vasquez looks like a Venezuelan Michael Chiklis (The Shield). He's thick and gruff-looking, with a shaved head. But the Kansas City, Kansas, cop and aspiring actor is a good guy -- despite his filmography, which includes a role as a sexual predator in filmmaker Gary Huggins' Sundance-approved First Date. Vasquez definitely knows something about bad guys, especially after a run-in with a meth user in May. The rumble sent Vasquez to KU Medical Center with a busted shoulder that required surgery. While recuperating, Vasquez wrote a pair of short films and co-wrote a feature about his experiences as an undercover cop. Over the summer, Vasquez starred in the tentatively titled MOS 8411, a short film about a barrio Marine recruiter mourning the death of one of his recruits in Iraq; Vasquez scored the role after a South By Southwest showing of First Date. Vasquez isn't sure what will happen next, but he has designs on a big break. "All that it takes is one person that believes in you to say, ÔWow, this guy has it,'" Vasquez says. And he definitely has it.
