Kathi Loper is the first to say that she isn't trying anything fancy. She just wants her drinks to taste good. "It's a simple drink, really," says the 57-year-old owner of Morning Glory Espresso. "It's as basic as it can be: milk, chocolate and coffee. But if it's good, it's because the three ingredients I use are quality." That philosophy applies to the rest of Morning Glory Espresso, too. You'll find better-decorated coffee shops in the metro, with slicker machines. But something about Loper's business, sky-blue from carpet to walls, is relaxing in the same way it might be if your former-hippie aunt opened a coffeehouse. That's evident right down to the new-age music filtering in from the kitchen and the sense of humor in the sign on the wall that says unattended children will be hopped up on espresso and given a puppy. Nothing at Morning Glory clamors for attention, including the mocha. That makes it all the better when you're surprised by how good a simple espresso drink can be.
