Fat Matt's Vortex
When describing the quirky charm of Fat Matt's Vortex, it's hard to know where to start. The bar used to be a funeral home, so there's still a crematorium in the basement. Then a lovely Wiccan and her husband bought the place and decorated it with witch knickknacks. Now, the Strawberry Hill bar brings in an affable mix of the pierced, the tattooed and the neighbors. Daily drink specials are a plus, as are the house specialties, including the Witches' Brew (a layered drink with Midori, rum and fruit juices) and the Grog (a banana-flavored concoction that comes with a list of rules on how to savor it). Best of all, the bar has a mascot: A chubby cat named Fat Matt, said to be the reincarnation of the original owner.
