Ball-gobbling native grasses grow tall at Drumm Farm Golf Club, which opened in 2002. The 18-hole course and nine-hole executive track were designed by Michael Hurzdan, an environmentally friendly golf architect who strives to save and enhance natural habitats. With four tee boxes, the main course at Drumm Farm accommodates long and short hitters alike. The best hole might be No. 8, a fierce, 246-yard par-3 from the back tees. Price-conscious hackers can play the main course for just $13 after 5 p.m. (Really budget-minded golfers should wear pants in order to wade into the weeds for lost balls.) The golf club serves both a charitable and a recreational purpose; the land is leased from the Andrew Drumm Institute, a 78-year-old foster home. The course is also a First Tee of Kansas City site, where underprivileged kids get a chance to learn the game.
