Best Club DJ

DJ Just
Friday and Saturday nights at Mint
334 East 31st Street • 816-753-5990

DJ Just says he has no idea where his stellar reputation comes from. He has never promoted himself — not a single flier. His longest gig was spinning to a hip-hop crowd at the former Hurricane. But as a mixer who can expertly tailor a song list to fit whatever crowd he's confronted with, he has amassed a legion of devotees willing to go wherever he is, even if that means facing a velvet rope at superswank Mint on Martini Corner. On a recent weekend, Just threw on the current club killer "A Milli" by Lil Wayne, and the pole in the center of the room nearly came off its moorings. What he plays depends on who's there, Just says. "Early on, if a bachelor party comes in, I'll be playing whatever cheesy rock music they want to hear: AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Journey. It all depends on what direction the party's going. But I don't want anybody to be left out, necessarily, as far as playing what people want to hear. So I'll play some good music, some bad music and whatever else."
