Mario Chalmer's 3-pointer

The Kansas Jayhawks trailed the Memphis Tigers by three points. Only 10.8 seconds separated the Tigers from coronation as college basketball's 2008 national champions. The Jayhawks' Sherron Collins dribbled wildly up the court as time escaped. Collins lost the handle when he reached the 3-point arc. With five seconds on the clock, Collins flipped the ball to Mario Chalmers and skidded across the hardwood. Chalmers took a dribble — 4.2 seconds — and jumped to launch a shot from near the top of the key. A defender flew toward Chalmers as he released the ball. Too late. Chalmers' shot sailed through the air and swished. Billy Packer screamed. The crowd erupted. Memphis' Robert Dozier heaved a desperation shot from near half-court. Missed. Chalmers' shot capped a 9-point comeback and knotted the score at 63. In overtime, the Jayhawks soared to a third national championship. Chalmers' shot may not have won the game, but it earned him a place in Jayhawks lore along with Wilt Chamberlain and Danny Manning.
