Best Radio PersonalityDonna Wolfe, KKFI 90.1
In a talk-radio world cluttered with pandering hosts and predictable outrage, someone like Donna Wolfe behind the mic is refreshing. As host of KKFI 90.1's Urban Connections (4 p.m. Saturdays) for the past four years, Wolfe has managed to avoid conjecture and hyperbole (as much as anyone on talk radio can); she relies instead on the most informed guests she can find, who speak in the most matter-of-fact ways they can. "My role is to act as a conduit, to be open to the issues and current events floating in the atmosphere and get them out to people," Wolfe says. "The best way to judge anything is from what the callers are saying. A little while ago, we had a kid from KCK — young, black, 19 — who called in about issues his contemporaries are dealing with, and that became one of our most popular shows. The most important thing is that we want to deal with facts. We're not interested in stroking anyone's ego. Facts and making sure we don't have bounds on what we talk about. We get around."
