Special thanks to Joe from Chimpotle for making me aware of that the city of Lenexa, Kansas is holding it Spinach Festival this weekend. It's this Saturday from 9 am - 5 pm at Sar-Ko-Par-Trails Park at 87th Street and Lackman Road.
There will be a spinach recipe contest, sweet peas and pods craft corner for the children and Miss Nina’s Dancin’ Darlins for entertainment. The most interesting event takes place in a 15-minute window from 10:45 to 11:00 a.m. when there will be the "World’s Largest Spinach Salad preparation." Taste victory afterwards with a plate from that gigantic salad at the Spinach Garden Café.
According to the website, Lenexa was called the "Spinach capital of the World" in the 1930's. Today that title is highly contested between Alma, Arkansas and Crystal Springs, Texas. With any luck (and a poppy seed dressing), we can bring that title right back to where it belongs in Lenexa, Kansas!
There's a whopping one dollar entrance free for people over 13. For extra parking there is a shuttle bus running from 95th and Lackman.
