Subscribers to the Pitch Forks dining newsletter know that I mentioned Lawrence is finally getting a respectable seafood restaurant called Angler's, located at the corner of 10th and Massachusetts Street. In the newsletter I reported that it was supposed to soft open last week and then officially open sometime this week. It did in fact have a soft opening Thursday and co-owner Jeff Lewis let me know that the restaurant is, as of tonight, officially open.

Angler's seafood focuses on sustainable choices. The restaurant's owners believe overfishing to be a huge problem and according to its Web site, it only uses "fish and shellfish that are caught in environmentally and ecologically responsible ways."

Lewis said the focus is also on extremely high-quality seafood, shipped in three times a week. I'm eager to try menu items such as Pistachio crusted diver scallop or porchini-sesame seared ahi tuna.

Lewis' background includes kitchen work and consulting work for numerous Lawrence restaurants, including brand consulting for 23rd Street Brewery. Not bad, considering Lewis graduated with an industrial design degree from KU just last year. "I was considering going to California... coming back to Lawrence in five years and starting my own restaurant," he said, "but this came up now and it was perfect timing."
