I stopped by Extra Virgin, Michael Smith's new tapas bar next to his eponymous restaurant at 19th and Main. (They share the same foyer.)
Extra Virgin was scheduled to open in late September but from the looks of the construction it will probably be a couple more weeks, minimum -- there's paint on the walls but no furniture yet.
But that doesn't mean it's not ready for a party! As subscribers of The Pitch's e-mail newsletter Pitch Forks already know, Extra Virgin hosts a block party this Sunday with live music, street games and, most interestingly, a pig roast. Best of all, it's for charity.
The event starts at 4 p.m. and costs $40 in cold hard cash (that's right, no credit cards) which includes all-you-can-eat-and-drink. Buy your tickets on the spot. If you want more info from the man himself click here. Look for an update soon when Fat City gets its hands on Extra Virgin's first menu.

The food is less Spanish and more mid-Western, disguised behind a pretentious menu. The wine list is great as it the ambiance. The service, however, is not. I doubt I will return.
Perfect weather, lively entertainment, good food and wine . . . and a good time was had by all. Looking forward to the real opening. The progress made in the last two weeks blew me away. It's going to be a beautiful space and a fun place to relax with friends. Glad it's finally [almost] a reality.
