Jen Chen isn't the only person on Fat City who can spot a funny sign. (Though admittedly, she is the best.) On Saturday morning, I was on The Pitch's team in the Ravenchase Adventure downtown. For those of you who don't know (I didn't), Ravenchase Adventures is an updated version of the scavenger hunt that is just getting started in the Kansas City area. Here's a slide show that gives a good idea of what the two-hour hunt was like.
It was a fun time, since the weather was great and the hunt had been set up within a small-enough area that we could walk to all the destinations. Nobody on the team was an expert on downtown Kansas City, but we still managed to do fairly well and also learned a ton.
One of the best moments of the trip came as we were walking down 11th street from Wyandotte towards Baltimore. On the right side of the road, in the Brookefield Building, I saw a sign for Chilaca "Fresh" Mexican Food.
I get trying to emphasize the fresh part but it seems fresh! or fresh would have been better choices. The way it reads makes jaded and ironic people such as myself think of the food in ways the sign-maker probably didn't intend. Sadly, Chilaca's was closed so I was unable to determine whether the food was actually fresh or just "fresh."
I'll go back when Chilaca's is open. Check back for details.

I thought it might be closed. It looked that way peering into it from the outside but then again, a lot of downtown businesses look that way and yet are still in business and doing good so I figured be on the safe side.
It's been closed for about 3 years. There were several of these in various office buildings downtown. Not sure if any are still open. It wasn't bad for downtown food. There are better places on the Blvd and 7th Ave, of course, but . . .
