It's December and so it's begun. Epicurious just published its list naming the top 10 food trends of 2009 and The New York Times thoroughly debunked the list as backwards and being so-2008 before adding some of its own trends. (Albeit NYT's were jokey trends.)
Neither Peruvian food nor Portland, Maine, as the next big things struck me as something we can look forward to here in Kansas City in 2009. So here's a couple from me. Remember, these are my ill-informed guesses and not facts.
-- Kansas City's first Dunkin' Donut's will open up and it will be somewhere on Metcalf Avenue.
-- The next restaurant trend in Kansas City won't be Peruvian food but dumpling bars.
-- At least one celebrity chef will try his or her hand at opening a restaurant in Kansas City.
-- Power & Light will experience its first restaurant closing.
-- The next "hot spot" will be the West Plaza area.
-- Missouri or Kansas will make a significant change to its liquor laws.
-- 119th Street Corridor will temporarily draw more out-of-towners than the Plaza before the pendulum again swings back.
-- Trader Joe's will announce a store for Kansas City but won't actually open it in 2009.
-- Boulevard hopefully releases a couple new beers.
And finally,
-- Fat City will quadruple its readership after blogger Owen Morris uncannily predicts every single event of 2009.
All right, there's all of mine for now. It's a fun game predicting the future and I have a lot of hope in these, especially the last one!

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

Restaurants and bars will realize their poor imitation of a cheesesteak is a mortal sin and quit offering them.
Someone will then Fed Ex in Amarroso rolls and legitimate hot peppers and offer a true cheesteak with...
The P&L restaurant closure will be the Bice Bistro.
You're not my little dumpling bar Owen. Just in case it needed saying.
