Delaware Cafe closes

The first restaurant casualty of 2009 is a painful one. Delaware Cafe, which was located at 300 Delaware in the River Market, has closed.

One of the most charming Saturday's I've had in the past year was at Delaware Cafe. Former head chef Joe West allowed me to tag along as he and company created a brunch from items they'd just bought at the nearby farmer's market.

West left Delaware Cafe two months ago for the bright lights of Las Vegas, and now Delaware Cafe has gone too. The restaurant closed this past Thursday and the landlord put the space up for rent. -- By Owen Morris

This is really bad news. A year or two ago it seemed to be going great as a lunch place with a pretty simple menu. I wonder if the remodel, the extended hours, and the new menu sunk them. I feel guilty for not having gone to eat dinner there.

Before their make-over, they had the best club sandwich and fries in the city.
