I first saw this on the Web site of our sister paper in Miami and couldn't resist sharing it.
First the important information. As I reported in Pitch Forks this morning, Krispy Kreme is giving away free doughnuts today in honor of the presidential inauguration. Per the press release:
"Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. is honoring American's sense
of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free
doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20."
When I saw that above sentence I thought one thing -- hey free doughnuts! But Judie Brown of the American Life League saw the press release and noticed another word: choice.
Yes, that evil word "choice." Brown quickly concluded that Krispy Kreme's "freedom of choice" extends far beyond doughnuts and into the realm of unborn baby killing. Therefore Brown released her own press release with the modest title "Krispy Kreme Celebrates Obama With Pro-Abortion Doughnuts."
Some highlights from the American Life League press release:
"The next time you stare down a conveyor belt of slow-moving, hot, sugary glazed donuts at your local Krispy Kreme, you just might be
supporting President-elect Barack Obama's radical support for abortion
on demand.
"Choice' is synonymous with abortion access, and celebration of 'freedomof choice' is a tacit endorsement of abortion rights.
"A misconstrued concept of 'choice' has killed over 50 million prebornchildren since Jan. 22, 1973. Does Krispy Kreme really want their free
doughnuts to celebrate this 'freedom."

I don't know who's actions are more repulsive: anti-'choice' zealots who flip out at benign acts of donut marketing or corporate prostitutes who actually dignify the wackos by rolling over for them.
The heck with both of them. I'm going to Dunkin after my next abortion!
I must have gotten to the press release after the offensive word "choice" was removed. I noted the last sentence "The Inauguration Day promotion is not about any social or political issue." and used it as a joke. Never did I think that it was in there because of an earlier "mistake".
I can't believe, well actually I can, that the word "Choice" can be twisted into a bad word.
Choice You religion lady!
Krispy Kreme has already backed down. See http://www.lifenews.com/nat475...
