It doesn't matter if you're a professional chef or amateur, the New York Times has made the discovery that the top new kitchen utensil for 2009 is the cell phone. Who cares about whisks, blenders, wooden spoons, food processors? It's the cell phone that can "keep grocery lists, find recipes, photograph their handiwork, look up the name of French cheeses, set timers for steak and soft-boiled eggs, and convert European or English measurements to American ones."

And if your careful preparations for a perfect dinner party go awry, you can also use it to call a caterer.
