Restaurant week in the Power & Light District

All over the country, cities are celebrating restaurant week. In places like New

York, Philadelphia and Denver, it involves hundreds of restaurants. In Kansas City, the scale may be smaller, but the idea is the same. Twelve Power & Light District restaurants are providing discounted prix-fixe menus to entice first-time customers. It's a win-win. Diners get deals on dinner, while

restaurants get a chance to lure potential repeat customers.

All of the special menus are posted on the Power & Light District's blog. Many look to be offering the same choices that they did in October, the last time the district had a restaurant week. Notable newcomers include 801 Chophouse, with a $30 three-course meal -- which is not bad considering the cheapest listed steak here costs more than $30 -- and the Peachtree Restaurant, which offers a three-course $25 meal. Flying Saucer, Tengo Sed Cantina and Gordon Biersch are offering drinks in their $25 dinner menu prices.

But here's where things get really interesting: "With each Restaurant Week visit, you will receive a free $10 Gift Card valid at the participating restaurant." Notice it says visit and not dinner. So you can visit Gordon Biersch today for a $10 lunch, get a $10 gift certificate with said lunch and come back the next day for free.

Restaurant week lasts from now through February 1.
