Now Open: One More Cup

To hear One More Cup owner Jeremy Neff tell the story of his coffee house, it was essentially an accident. "I wasn't even thinking about opening a coffee shop. My wife [Stacey] and I just had a child and we were thinking maybe 10 years down the road of opening one... but then the opportunity came up and how could you not take it?"

The opportunity was a building at 7408 Wornall Road, better known as the old Sancho's after the Mexican restaurant that was there for 20 years. "I had a friend call me up and ask where it was and after a few minutes of explaining, just said where Sancho's used to be. I hope we're around at least as long as Sancho's."

While the exterior is pretty much the same, the interior is

completely different. One More Cup was built with green building

materials. From a floor made of cork to counters made of 100 percent post-recycled paper, "wherever

we could go green, we tried to do that," Neff said.

That mindset applies to the drinks, too. All of One More Cup's coffee

and tea is fair-trade and organic, and the milk products are all from

Shatto Dairy. "We wanted to use the same products we use in our own

life. We love Roasterie's organic coffee and our child only drinks

Shatto milk... the feel is more like a living room than a coffee house. It's an extension of who we are."

To

that end Neff stressed that One More Cup is child friendly. He serves healthy snacks, and there's a special table with kids' books.

For those looking to get serious work done, One More Cup has a partial

T1 Internet connection that Neff promised was very, very fast. On some nights there will be music, since Jeremy is by trade a musician and a

piano tuner.

Between the child, the restaurant and his tuning

job Neff admitted to being a little overworked. But he said he's

enjoying it and glad Waldo finally has a coffee house. "We want this to

be a neighborhood coffee place. We live in Waldo only four blocks away

from the store. There's a lot of support of the neighborhood here which

I love and we want to be the place they can hang out and just be

comfortable."

One More Cup is open Monday through Friday

6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m to 8 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3

p.m.; the phone number's 816-994-3644. And in case you need a

piano tuner, Neff can be reached for that at 816-686-8826.
