Tonight is the first of Harvesters' Forks & Corks dinners. The biggest is next month, but tonight's proceeds are no less important to Kansas City's only food bank. Eleven restaurants are participating; each offers a special prix-fixe dinner with a portion of the proceeds going directly to Harvesters.
Lidia's serves a three-course $35 meal, with diners choosing from three entrees including tenderloin filet with garlic fried potatoes, risotta with balsamic reduction and a seafood soup loaded with mussels, scallops and shrimp.
Piropos has a three-course menu for $38, with specials like filet mignon and pan-seared tilapia. The Bristol also serves seafood at both its downtown and Leawood locations, with specials including Hawaiian swordfish with lobster mac n' cheese and a bastardized surf n' turf of braised short ribs with Georges Bank scallops.
Other participating restaurants in Johnson County include Room 39 and Blanc Burger & Bottles, both in Mission Farms (as well as their Missouri equivalents) and J. Gilbert's Wood-Fired Steaks in Overland Park. On the Missouri side, Capital Grille and Em Chamas Brazilian Grill also offer special menus.
At least 20 percent of each meal tab goes to Harvesters. In addition, you will be able to buy tickets for April 23's Forks & Corks gala dinner at the Grand Ballroom of the KC Convention Center -- a night of live music, restaurants and fine wine -- starting at $85.
