This week, Tara Parker-Pope ran a quiz in the New York Times about cooking personalities. If you want so see how your cooking personalty falls into one of the five distnict types, you can take it here.
Now I personally detest this kind of quiz -- which is why I grimace when my "friends" on Facebook insist on sending endless variations on the confessional quiz in my direction. What are my Top Ten Movies About Dogs? Who in the hell cares? (But in case anyone does, I do still cry watching Lassie Come Home).
I'm not sure I really want to know what my "cooking personality" might be since, well, it could be a big disappointment.
But throwing all caution to the wind, here are my answers to the
questions. If you want to see what the other options for answers are, take the test along with me. Ready? Let's do it:
1) When I prepare a meal, I typically:
e) Rarely use recipes and try to experiment. (Let's just say this doesn't work very well all the time).
2) Some of my favorite ingredients are:
a) Lots of breads, starches, and red meat. (Well, I could lie. I know this isn't the answer they're looking for)
3) In my free time I like to:
a) Visit with friends and family. (I only chose this answer because
there wasn't a "None of the Above" category, which I would have
immediately checked).
4) My favorite things to cook are:
a) Home-baked goodies. (Which I prefer to eat myself rather than
share with the "friends and family" group mentioned in the preceding
question).
5) Other people describe me as:
e) Curious. (Only because the other choices, like "Really friendly" or "Health conscious" didn't really appeal to me).
According to the quiz, because I chose the letter "a" most
frequently, I fall into the "Giving" category: "Friendly,
well-liked...serving less healthful foods."
I'll dwell on that conclusion tonight as I cook up a platter of fried chicken and home fries.
