Restaurants that wouldn't think about serving brunch the rest of the year make an exception for Easter. News about most of these brunches first appeared in our dining newsletter Pitch Forks, which goes out on Monday night. No guarantee that they haven't sold out since then but we do try and check.

Grand Street Cafe serves a grand Easter brunch buffet with highlights including a seafood bar, a meat carver, a build-your-own omelet station and vanilla rum butter pancakes -- for $22.95 per adult and $9.95 for kids 10 and under. But you have to call 816-561-8000 for seating times.

The Kansas City Marriott Downtown puts on a family-friendly Easter brunch on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. with special appearances by a large rabbit and someone called LuLu the Clown. Offerings include a traditional breakfast buffet along with a variety of meat entrees and a carving station for sirloin and lamb. With two adult purchases of the Easter brunch, a family receives a $50 certificate for a one-night stay at any Marriott. Brunch is $30 per adult, $13 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children age 5 and under. Make reservations at 816-421-6800, extension 4640.

Cafe Provence in Prairie Village has an a la carte Easter brunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. including eggs Benedict with crab ($14) and braised lamb stew with mashed potatoes ($17). For reservations call 913-384-5998.

In Brookside, Avenues Bistro has not one but two special meals. The brunch

buffet is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes carved baked ham, eggs

Benedict, breakfast potatoes and a wide assortment of pastries. The

dinner buffet is from 4 to 9 p.m. and will feature prime rib,

lobster, au gratin potatoes and a dessert bar with chocolate-dipped

strawberries. Both buffets cost $16.95 per person and $9.95 for

children 12 and under. Call 816-333-5700 for reservations.

Up

north, Cafe des Amis serves a three-course brunch from 11 a.m. to 3

p.m. with entrees like duck confit, Saint Jacques with garlic confit,

and rainbow trout filled with crab meat. $38 per person. For reservations

call 816-587-6767.

Also in the Northland, Brazilian steakhouse Em Chamas

puts on a "full rodizio" Easter Brunch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rodizio

simply means that the restaurant will have all of its regular selections of skewered meats and the salad buffet. It's $24.99 per

adult and

$12.99 for children 10 and under. Reservations call 816-505-7100.

Back in Leawood Sullivan's Steakhouse is opening up its doors at 11 a.m. for an a la carte brunch including filet mignon eggs Benedict, buttermilk pancakes, prime-rib and strawberry Belgian waffles. For reservations call 913-345-0800.

Finally, also a la carte is the redesigned Chaz in the Raphael Hotel, with a special menu featuring everything from egg dishes to roast of lamb. All items include coffee, tea and juice plus the dessert bar with cookies, cakes and pastries. Items start at $13 for adults and $5 for children. For reservations call 816-756-3800.

Not brunches but Easter-related

Great Harvest has hundreds of

handmade "honey bunnies" -- fresh loaves of bread kneaded by artisans into the

shape of bunnies. The price is $13.95 per bunny and the

store estimates it will make around 500 before Sunday.

DiCapo Foods offers free shipping on all three-pound trays of cookies. Or get a $5 discount off the $35 price if you

pick them up from DiCapo's store in downtown Kansas City at 901 E. 19th

Street.

Mother's Day is coming up soon, with another round of brunches. If there's one we should know about, e-mail us at cafe@pitch.com

All the downtown restaurants offering Easter dinner are full and I was saddened to find out that the Golden Ox is already full 'til close! :(

An all-you-can-eat buffet with prime rib and lobster for $16.95? Typo, perhaps?
