Farmers' Markets are blooming

With spring in bloom, it's time to get out and pick your veggies in the fresh air like God meant ya to. Here is a list of some farmers' markets to get you well on your way. If I missed one please e-mail me.

Open Tomorrow:


Farmers' Community Market at Brookside: Opening Day! Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Farmers' Market in the City Market: Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Lawrence Downtown Farmers' Market: Opening Day! Saturday 7 to 11 a.m.

Opening Later:

Bad Seed Friday Night Market: May 1

Downtown Overland Park Farmers' Market: Opening this Wednesday! 7:30 a.m. until sell-out

KC Organics and Natural Market: May 2

Olathe Farmers' Market: April 25

Shawnee Farmers' Market: May 2

39th Street Community Market: May 6

Agree but I don't think it is all bad. As Meesha says, it is pretty easy to spot who is growing their own stuff.

Why take a chance on getting burned when you can go to Brookside, Independence or Overland Park farmer's markets and be assured the people selling are the people producing.

The Farmer's Market in City Market is not a true farmer's market. None of the vendors have to be the producers. It is usually overpriced and trucked in from another state by a wholesaler.

If you are going to pay a premium for food, at least make sure the farmer who grew and harvested the crop gets your dollars.
