Hereford House is currently offering a special "date night" deal, a four-course meal for two for $49 per couple. Available seven days a week.

You share an appetizer; each person gets a soup or a salad; and then you share a dessert with free coffee. There are four desserts to choose from, bread pudding, chocolate cake, peach cobbler and cheesecake.

But wait you say. What about the entrees?

Most so-called specials don't have many entree choices but Hereford

House provides nine to choose from, none of which are

shabby. There's a 10-ounce strip or sirloin, a six-ounce filet Mignon

and 10 ounces of prime rib. For non red-meat eaters, there is

chicken piccata, salmon or double-bone pork chop.

The deal is available at all four Hereford House locations -- Leawood, Independence, Zona Rosa and Shawnee.

If you are looking for an even cheaper date, stop by Hereford House during lunch. Every day those four locations offer a

half-pound steakburger and fries for $5 until 3 p.m. That's 8 ounces of

Angus beef and hand-cut fries for $5 and you don't even have to dine in

-- the deal is good for carry-out too.

Damn good lunch!
