Recession Relief: M&S Grill

Posted by Owen Morris on Fri, Apr 17, 2009 at 11:15 AM

I couldn't mention the new summer drink menu at M&S Grill without mentioning one of the best things about the restaurant -- happy hour. Its menu bills it as the "best happy hour this end of the Plaza!" but that's selling itself short.

The menu is set up in four $1 increments starting at $1.95. For that, you get a choice of four different items including fried artichoke hearts or bruschetta with tomato salad on top. For $2.95, there's a plate of cheeseburger sliders and french fries, or calamari or spinach dip with tortilla chips.

The last time I was there, I decided on the $3.95 fish tacos: two soft tortillas overflowing with corn salsa and grilled fish. That also buys a plate of buffalo wings or a pizza margherita. If you're really spending big, $4.95 gets a choice of fried shrimp with fries, pot roast sliders, Asian style ribs or Kobe beef carpaccio.

M&S does ask a minimum $3.50 beverage purchase per person to enjoy the happy hour prices. That's not hard to do with the abundance of high class cocktails. The La Rosa cocktail, a spin on the classic margarita made with hibiscus-infused tequila, is $7.95. A Bombora vodka cosmo is $6.95, as is the Cooranbong vodka. Well drinks are $5.95. Cheapest are the Missouri craft beers -- Boulevard and Schalfly brews -- which are $2 off.

The happy hour is in the bar area every Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. and again Monday through Thursday from 9 to 10 p.m. and on the weekend from 3 to 5 p.m. The menu changes frequently although the prices stay the same, so even though calamari might not be on the menu next week, there will be something else just as good for $2.95.
