I went to the Mainstreet Theater and its restaurant The Marquee for a second time yesterday. Previously I had only been in the restaurant area, which opened for business at the beginning of this month. The theater part, which is the in the south end of the building, is nearly done and officially opens for business May 1. (Although you can get a preview at the Kansas City Film Fest.)
The space is divided into six theaters. The three on the ground floor are for moviegoers ages 18 and over (minors are allowed with a parent or guardian). The three theaters on the top floor are smaller, with dining suites like AMC's Fork & Screen. This level is for ages 21 and over. Communications manager Andy DiOrio stressed that each and every seat at the new theater is reserved, "so you can pick out which seat you want ahead of time and then be assured of it being available."
Completely unique to the Mainstreet Theater is a soda fountain extravaganza that DiOrio termed the "flavor wall."
It contains a soda fountain with more than a dozen choices (including
chocolate). The wall also extends to condiments and popcorn toppings, allowing
customers to add butter flavor, cinnamon, parmesan
salt and other choices.
Back in the Marquee area, the 40-foot high bar dominates. But on
the far side of the restaurant are couches to lounge in and a coffee bar. (Espresso is $2.50 and cappuccinos start at $3.50.) In addition,
when the restaurant gets crowded (and provided there are no
private parties), patrons are invited to check out the
second floor mezzanine which overlooks the bar and can hold 200 people.
Like the food menu, the cocktail menu is based on favorites and comforts. Classic cocktails include the old fashioned, the Harvey
Wallbanger, the Singapore sling and "real
martinis" made with Hendrick's gin (classic cocktails are $9). There are
a dozen wines by the glass, all in the $6 to $9 range. Beers on tap
include Sam Adams, Stella Artois, Guinness and Boulevard Wheat.
The menu has stayed the same since I last wrote about it, but it's
worth mentioning again that the Marquee's happy hour is Monday through
Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. All domestic drafts are $3, well cocktails are
$4 and selected wines are $5. Also every Wednesday is hump day, with
half-price burgers and half-price draft beer all day.
Showing 1-5 of 5
that sounds pretty good, im someone who likes to try different things, that may be one.
Theatre has assigned seating. When you order on-line you do not have the option to choose seats; instead you're given "best available". I ordered tickets several hours ahead of showtime and got Seats? in the front row all the way to the side. Show was sold out so we couldn't change seats. We got our money back...
Careful ordering online!!!
Yea I have a great f****** idea how about listing a local a phone number!
Finally someone realizes that butter and salt are not the only condiments people want on their popcorn. If they have a garlic salt choice I may have inappropriate relations with someone from AMC. Parmesan cheese is a fantastic addition. A little bit of Greek seasoning would be great as well.
