Every time America talks about getting in shape and cutting down on obesity, some negative Nancy has to come along with data showing that we're actually eating at fast-food restaurants more. This time that naysayer is a research company called Experian Simmons which just released a study (pdf) of the fast-food industry covering a mammoth five-year time period.

You couldn't pay me to eat at Arby's - that place is a total suckfest, worse than the old A&W restaurants. But I don't really consider Panera and Chipotle (or Subway, for that matter) "fast food" like KFC, Taco Bell, BK, McD, etc. It has more to do with the amount of processed food on the menu than the speed of service to me.
Since you mention them, did they consider Panera and Chipotle fast food for the purpose of the survey? Just curious...
It's sad to say, but you're almost guaranteed to ingest fewer calories at a fast food place than at a sit-down place. Not that calories are the end-all, be-all of total health, but they are the end-all, be-all of weight control.
