In case you don't remember this Pulitzer-winning Fat City post about the Kansas Sampler Foundation: The group was asking people to submit restaurants for its "8 Wonders" project, which highlights the best Kansas has to offer in areas such as art and architecture.
The Foundation was looking for spots people considered iconic, or the best. After more than 120 submissions, it has narrowed down the field to 24 finalists and only one in Kansas City.
Fritz's Railroad Restaurant in KCK (250 N. 18th St.), with its "Skat Kat" train delivery service was a natural pick for the list.
Johnson, the state's largest county population-wise, has no finalists, but neighbor Douglas County has two. Free State Brewery and Wheatfields -- both in Lawrence. Hibachi Hut in Manhattan also made the list.
You can vote here for eight finalists. In fact you must vote for eight restaurants or the vote doesn't count.
The poll closes at midnight
on June 15 and a few days later, Kansas Sampler will name the official
eight wonders. Which hopefully include the above-mentioned restaurants.
And I'm not going to divulge all the places I voted for but let's just say two rhyme with zoo play and brie late.
