I do love my mother, though she's a terrible cook. Even she admits it. I became interested in food at a very young age because she actively encouraged my brothers and I to make our own meals so she wouldn't have to.
Maybe it was just smart long-term thinking on her part, because now that we're grown up, my brothers and I always prepare a feast for her (and for us, too!) on Mother's Day. This year is no different. It's our tasty little way of saying "We love you mom" because we do.
Another way to celebrate is with a delicious brunch and there are several around town this Sunday.
When I printed this list in dining newsletter Pitch Forks on Tuesday, all of the following still had room available. Now all bets are off. But if your mother asks nicely, maybe some places will accommodate her.
Chaz on the Plaza features exotic
dishes like egg sardou as well as classic ones like smoked turkey breast
and roast leg of lamp. The a la carte menu includes coffee, tea and juice plus the dessert bar. The brunch is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; prices for
adults begin at $14 a person and prices for children six to 10 are $5.

The Kansas City Marriott gives each mother a box of gourmet
artisan chocolate truffles. The brunch is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is

The Bristol downtown serves brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., $25 for adults and $13.50 for children. Reserve by calling 816-448-6007.
has a special 3 for $33 menu, featuring dishes

Sunday buffet runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes an assortment of
Tuscan breakfast items and dinner dishes plus a chocolate fountain. It
