it's been losing premium-burger market share
Owen, you're a good guy, but I cannot sit here and allow you to misrepresent the crap served at McDonald's (or Hardee's, or Burger King, or Wendy's) as "premium" burgers in any meaningful sense of the term.
"Premium" burgers are served at Winstead's, Hi-Boy, L.C.'s, Westport Flea Market, etc. etc. They are not served at McDonald's, BK, or their fast-food-chain cohorts. Trust me on this.
"with the millions of dollars McDonald's is spending to unseat Starbucks, they'll probably get the problems with their McBaristas fixed eventually"
Maybe. But the word McJob was created for a reason. A McDonalds employee is meant to be completely interchangeable with any non-psychopath off the street with a grade school education. Unless McDonalds can totally automate the barista process, they're going to keep pissing off coffee drinkers. I don't drink coffee, so I try to frequent local places when I need a tea fix.
I suckered myself into getting one of these yesterday for lunch. I had the one with bacon.
Bottom line, it was disgusting.
I'm a cheap bastard with little regard for my health so I am no fast-food snob... but I find everything from McD's save the fries, double cheeseburgers, and an occasional big mac to be totally pointless.
If I'm going to McDonalds it is so I can spend $2.17 on something edible that, while making me feel gross, will get me through until dinner.
Unfortunately for ya'll in KC, the only actually near-good fast food burgers in my opinion are found at Whataburger and Jack in the Box (sourdough burger at JitB).
