If you don't subscribe to our dining newsletter Pitch Forks, then you are missing out. It is all that and a bag of chips. Below are just some of this weekend's activities (actually, just Saturday's) that Pitch Forks would have helped you plan for.

Tomorrow is the German Somerfest at Turners Banquet Center

in Belton (512 Bong, 816-322-4202), an event that promises German food,

German beverages and polka bands. Somerfest is 1-11 p.m. and tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per

child.

Closer to the city, Blue Bird Bistro

hosts a farmer's market dinner on Saturday from 6-9 p.m., with

summer ingredients from all over Kansas and Missouri. Bringing their

potatoes, peppers and beef for the five-course dinner are farmers from Organic Farm Way in Milo, Missouri, Nature's Choice Farm in St. Joe and Wood Mood Garden Farm

in Higginsville.

The beef dish could win an award for the most local

ingredients: It's served with cherry tomatoes drizzled in a reduction

of Most Wanted Vodka and Bob Burns Kansas Honey. The dinner (a

vegetarian option is available) is $45; wine pairings for the courses

are an extra $20. Call 816-221-7559 for reservations.

For a behind-the-scenes look at a brewery -- including plenty of samples -- join "The Beer Jockey" Jim Quinn for his Communiversity presentation on brewing history and tour of McCoy's Public House on Saturday from 3-5 p.m. It costs $19 (only $10

for UMKC students); to reserve a spot contact Communversity at

816-235-1488.
