Get some free food for thought this Sunday, July 19, at the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library (14 W. 10th Street) when Pitch restaurant critic Charles Ferruzza leads a discussion on "Dining in Kansas City: From the Depression to the Recession."
His talk covers the development of Kansas City's restaurant scene during the Great Depression in the 1930s. In showcasing the history of classic venues like the Forum Cafeteria and the Savoy Grill, Ferruzza explains how restaurants have evolved to match shifts in our culture and palates. At the same time, it should be comforting to learn that people did eat out, even during such hard times.
The presentation, part of the Missouri Valley Speaker Series, begins at 2 p.m. You can reserve a seat online or call 816-701-3407. Admission is free, as is parking in the Library District Parking Garage at 10th Street and Baltimore.
