A funky color seems to suggest that a soda's shelf life will have
a limited run. Witness the quick introduction and goodbye from Pepsi
Blue, Mountain Dew Code Red and Dr. Pepper Red Fusion. These all
seemed to suffer from the same problem as snow cones and ICEEs -- color
is not a flavor. In the nation's defense, it was a weird time, the
heyday of colored ketchup.
Colors
might have seemed preferable to a few flavors -- the lemony cleaner
flavor of Pepsi Twist or the difficult-to-reconcile coffee aftertaste
of Coca-Cola Blak. Sometimes a product will be rebooted. Surge disappeared in 2002 to the disappointment of a rabid group of online fans, but came back four years later as a reformulated citrus drink, Vault.
If you happen to miss one of these fallen titans of the soda world, you can try the online search engine, Soda Finder, or the online forum, Salute to Soda. If you can't track down a bottle of what you want, you might find something else to drink.

I'm pretty sure you can get Code Red at most Taco Bell's in the metro. There are also more obscure varieties of Dew like Livewire and Baja Blast.
I'm pretty sure I bought diet Code Red just a few months ago at Hy Vee on state line. This reminds me of 7up Gold and Crystal Pepsi (am I aging myself?). I loved both of them and was pretty disappointed when they were discontinued.
I think you can still get Code Red. If not, that kinda sucks because it was good...but regardless, it was hardly a flash in the pan like Blue Pepsi. It was/has been around for years.
