It's time to take your place among the greats. Many of us have always wanted to hold a Guinness World Record -- but a lot of those require some amount of training and the proper certification from Guinness.
Enter The Universal Record Database, which bills itself as "the definitive site for human achievement." It's essentially a combination of Wikipedia and the Guinness World Record system, wherein people can submit feats of gustatory (or general) stupidity.
Some look difficult to top, like the "Most Toppings on a Scanned Sandwich" -- a total of 30 -- on Scanwiches, a Web site devoted to scans of sandwich offerings in New York, which Fat City has called "the ultimate food porn site."
Other records are more attainable and this is where you could make your
mark in an afternoon with a video camera and a package of Tums. Well,
that and a few containers of eggs. You could likely eat a fried egg sandwich in under 44.5 seconds. Or channel your Cool Hand Luke and demolish the standing record of 15 hard-boiled eggs in an hour.
Not an egg fan? How about six cupcakes in 11 minutes, 20 seconds? Think you could managed to engineer a Bacon Explosion
in under five slices? You also don't have to try to tackle an existing
record -- the URDB appears to disqualify submissions for only two reasons: They are obscene or can't be properly validated. Outside of those
limited restraints, you're free to own whatever food challenge you deem
worthy of your eating talents.
