Not many people can pinpoint exactly where everything on the dinner table came from. But tomorrow night, Leawood residents can purchase everything from their morning coffee to late-night dessert and know where every product originated.
KC Organics debuted a second farmers market at Barkley Square in Leawood's Park Place development last Wednesday. The new weekly market (Wednesdays until October 14) joins the more-established offering in Minor Park (Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. until October 17).
"We had a great opening day -- and we're hoping to turn this into a long-term relationship. Everything depends on what happens right now," says Peter Stauffacher, the market manager for KC Organics.
The market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the open-air pavilion in the heart of the
Park Place (117th Street and Nall) development.
"This is a group and spot that is community-oriented and features a majority of locally owned businesses," says Stauffacher.
He noted that several vendors are hoping to make their produce available to
Ingredient, the salad-and-pizza restaurant that recently opened on Barkley Square.
Inside the pavilion,
Pearly Gates will be on hand to sell organic soap and body care products.
The Bread of Life Bakery will have a selection of specialty breads and baked goods.
Ambrose Bee Pharm will also be selling locally-produced honey.
Stauffacher says that the weather has led to a late abundance of tomatoes, corn and green beans. In the future, chefs will also be holding cooking demonstrations. See KC Organics for upcoming events.
