A perfectly cooked egg is a sign of a great chef. Don't believe the hype? Why else do you think the chef's egg trick is so popular at Benihana? (For pure procrastination, watch this video of a Benihana chef's tricks set to a techno-based remix of "Gangsta's Paradise" -- it is beyond compare).
Most of us don't make perfect eggs, but all of us can make eggs. As such, it's always nice to have a few additional egg-related tricks up the sleeves of your chef whites or yolk-stained T-shirts.
In addition to providing some basic tips on egg size and type, The Chicago Tribune has a sweet guide to cracking eggs with one hand. The four-step photo series looks like a tutorial for how to throw a curveball, but the steps actually work. The first time it feels counter-intuitive, but the motions are easy enough to learn that you can get it right by the time you're done making a recipe that calls for a few eggs.
Now here's a video explanation for how to fry an egg on the sidewalk. This ultimately feels as practical as making chocolate chip cookies on the dashboard of your car. Perhaps, this is how cars might be sold in the post-Cash for Clunkers economy.
The Daily Green even wants to help you step up your game when it comes to eggshells -- offering 12 re-uses. Apparently an eggshell in the coffee filter can lead to
less bitter coffee. Stay tuned for the follow-up on that one. And I'm even more curious about the possibility of eggshells as an alternative fuel.
