This week in sandwiches

You should never go more than 48 hours between sandwiches. That's because sometime in that 48 hours, you'll be faced with a choice between a sandwich or another entree, and you'll choose the non-sandwich alternative. It will inevitably be the wrong choice.

And since it's been a big week for sandwiches, Fat City's going to go around the horn to look in at the latest things to happen between two slices of bread. You know it's a wacky week when there's a flood in the town of Sandwich, Massachusetts, the week before the theatrical release of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

The online world was abuzz with news that the hoki may be overfished. Because it's often used in fish sticks and even McDonald's Filet-o-Fish, the issue of whether the catch is sustainable is being fiercely debated. Just like sausage filling, it's not a pretty sight.

Landlubbers will be happy to know that there's a cheesesteak book on the shelves for them. Carolyn Wyman, author of The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book, describes it as the "first and only guidebook to this iconic food." The pages are not laminated, so make sure to perfect your lean if you're eating while reading.

One deputy at an Ohio jail was not honoring food safety laws

when he fed an inmate a bologna sandwich that had been rubbed across

another inmate's genitals. Joseph Cantwell and a fellow deputy then

took pictures to mark the occasion. Last week, he received five years

probation as part of a plea deal. Three prisoners are now suing

Franklin County based on what happened.

And finally, we have a slightly more appetizing, relatively new addition to the online world -- Insanewiches

-- a collection of oddly shaped sandwich offerings that users can rank

according to their ridiculousness. The front page currently features a

sandwich shaped like a barbell and the quadruple down (two double downs from KFC stacked on top of each other).
