Download Vinyl Vlog's Save the Vinyl Compilation

Posted By on Fri, Oct 30, 2009 at 9:00 AM

With the FEST this weekend, it's easy to feel like you're in the middle of missing a lot of amazing music. CMJ was last weekend, and Fun Fun Fun Fest is next weekend, so getting online and reading pretty much anything starts to feel like everyone is enjoying themselves except your sorry unable-to-afford-airfare ass.

Fear not, fellow inhabitants of the financial bottom rung! Vinyl Vlog understands. While they're providing free record mailers to all attendees of this weekend's FEST, so as to protect all that limited edition vinyl that'll be available, they also understand that some of us can't afford a trip down to Florida. Thus, they've made the Save the Vinyl compilation included with all those free mailers available as a download.

You can find the art for the compilation and a download link in this post. The comp features tracks from O Pioneers!!!, Iron Chic, and Jonesin', among other underground hotness.

TMZ: Larry Johnson's agent didn't know homophobic slurs were offensive?

Posted By on Fri, Oct 30, 2009 at 8:40 AM

Larry Johnson
  • Larry Johnson

TMZ quotes Larry Johnson's agent claiming that he didn't know that using "fag" or "faggots" is offensive.

Here's what TMZ says agent Peter Schaffer had to say about the now-suspended Chiefs running back's repeated use of homophobic slurs:

"We know the N-word is unacceptable, that's not disputable -- but f*g? I'm learning that there's a segment of our society that finds it offensive and that it should not be used. I didn't realize that, but I do know now..."

A segment of society? Like say the segment that isn't homophobic?

Anyway, Schaffer told The Kansas City Star that he's negotiating a settlement with the Chiefs to resolve LJ's future -- and settlement doesn't necessarily mean Johnson will be leaving KC.

Now, the NAACP is demanding an apology, according to KSHB Channel 41.

Otto promised to do another rap -- one that praised Obama. Take it away, MC Otto.

Halloweekend Fun

Posted By on Fri, Oct 30, 2009 at 8:00 AM

1. Get hot and Rocky Horror-fied, as the burlesque troupe BDU does a Rocky Horror-themed performance at Firefly tonight.

2. Get freaked out -- the West Bottoms is chock full of haunted houses presented by Full Moon Productions. For some DIY haunted house action check out the Newton family's homemade haunt in Overland Park on Saturday night and John Bersuch's haunted West Bottoms loft, open to the public on Sunday.

3. Get your freak face on. Costumes are encouraged at virtually every bar in town tonight and tomorrow. Check out this Halloweekend Hitlist for some ideas.

4. Take a tot trick-or-treating. There are safe trick-or-treating activities being hosted all over the metro on Saturday, including Trunk or Treat at Alcott Arts Center.

5. Don't forget the dead! Sunday is el Dia de los Muertos (aka Day of the Dead). Although maybe not the most authentic, possibly the most fun party in honor of this Mexican holiday is the fiesta that Wearhaus is throwing at the Beaumont Club.

Oh, teach us how to dress, Halls!

  • Taking dress cues from Lindsay Lohan since 2007...

Because there's no way that you'd figure this out by yourselves, Plaza retailer Halls started posting videos on its Web site that dispense obscure fashion secrets like wearing leggings. The 10-episode series, "What the Chic," unfurls vital tidbits via its host, Michael Mackie, who's bubblier than a freshly opened bottle of Boone's Farm -- and that's meant in the most awesome possible way.

The webisodes are produced by Darren Mark (a television personality you might remember from NBC's Channel 41 or the short-lived "Kansas City Live") and Kevin Schwarzenberger of Scenic Road Productions.
