What you should eat at KCI

If you're flying through Kansas City International Airport this weekend, your best bet is to still be full from Thanksgiving. But because you're invariably going to be tempted by the kiosks and televisions showing football games, Fat City wanted to at least give your stomach a fighting chance when you cave and decide to drop your credit card at the one of the few food options inside each terminal.

As always, KCI airport eating is complicated by the fact that, with the exception of pre-packaged Wolfgang Puck meals, all of the food options are outside the security line for the gate. You can't take 'em with you.

Terminal A -- Your best option at the Fountains of Seville is a to-go salad -- although we wish parent company HMS Host would simply install a PinkBerry as they have at Los Angeles International Airport. At the Home Turf Sports Bar and Grill, stick with pub food -- anything from the fry-o-lator -- and potato skins. When you do crack and eat Cinnabon, just know that millions before you have made the same mistake.

Terminal B -- If you happen to be flying out of the center terminal, you've hit KCI's culinary jackpot. Your first stop should be the Boulevard Brewery outpost, which has several seasonal and regular offerings on tap. Skip the steak at the Great Steak & Potato Company, but take them up on their oversized baked potato topped with cheddar cheese and bacon crumbles, which will have you pleasantly anchored to your airplane seat. Keep it simple at the Jose Cuervo Tequileria and get a chicken quesadilla.

Terminal C -- Just Off Vine has table service and a decent selection of wines. At the Budweiser Stadium Club, chicken fingers are the way to go  -- just like when you were six years old. Baked goods from Starbucks can be hit or miss; ask the cashier what's fresh.

I am not arguing about the quality of the food. The beer at Boulevard Brewery is excellent.

But for those going through the security lines. Food is allowed in. Just not Drinks.

As the Security people say "NO! Liquids, gel's, or aerosol."

Agreed. If you end up in Terminal B, Boulevard Brewery is the way to go. It's always a treat to have some good beer while traveling. Cheers!
