Prepare for a peppermint invasion

The cool rush of peppermint always accompanies the onset of winter, so be ready for the invasion of peppermint-flavored drinks and eats at fast food spots around the city.

Dunkin' Donuts, which just opened in Overland Park, has a chocolate mint donut and peppermint mocha latte. The chocolate mint donut is a chocolate-glazed, chocolate donut with crushed peppermint on top, spread out like sprinkles.

Starbucks has peppermint mocha and peppermint white chocolate mocha drinks. You can also buy peppermint syrup directly from the coffee shop's online store.

Chik-fil-A has been serving its handspun, peppermint chocolate chip milkshake for the past several weeks. It reportedly has a "minty, vanilla base" with crunchy bits of candy cane and chocolate chips. It's a seasonal offering, so grab it if you're interested.

Denny's has hopped on the peppermint bandwagon with Pancake Puppies -- hush puppy-sized pancakes stuffed with peppermint and white chocolate sprinkles. They're rolled in powdered sugar and served with warm syrup for dipping. Best of luck, because these sound like game enders.

And the Candy Cane Chill Blizzard -- soft serve mixed with candy cane pieces and chocolate chunks -- arrives at Dairy Queen tomorrow. Word is it's similar to the Yule Flip Peppermint Chip Blizzard of years past.
