You need plans. Fat City has a recycle bin full of listings. In this post, all our problems are solved.
Today is a First Friday, which means there is plenty to do and eat in the Crossroads. Start the night off at City Tavern's happy hour -- where oyster shooters are $1 between 4 and 6 p.m. If you stop in later, the daily soup is usually a winner.
No matter what type of cuisine you're cooking, you can always find
guidance at the library. And now you can take that advice home
permanently. The Friends of the Library hold their third annual cookbook sale
on Saturday at the Plaza Branch (4801 Main Street) from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. Most cookbooks are $3, with a special selection of
collectibles for between $5 and $15. There will also be food-related
fiction and nonfiction at this library fundraiser.
Even in the time of dinosaurs, there was breakfast with Santa. Stop by T-Rex Cafe in the Legends on Saturday from 8 to 10 in the morning. Santa will be on hand the next four Saturdays.
Christmas also comes early in Ottawa, Kansas, with the annual Victorian Christmas Festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Carriage rides, a train show and a live Nativity scene are just part of the entertainment, but the real reward is warm apple cider and kettle corn. The parade winds through downtown at 11 a.m.
Since you're likely to eat pancakes this weekend, you might as well have better pancakes and help out the Kansas City Zoo. At Pancakes for Penguins
on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon, you can enjoy forkfuls of
Chris Cakes pancakes and sausages and hot cups of Roasterie coffee.
Tickets are $13 ($8 for Friends of the Zoo) and include a photo with
Santa and a tote bag. Proceeds help raise money to bring penguins to
the zoo.
Christmas Tea comes to Henry's Tearoom in Lee's Summit on Sunday. You're encouraged to wear holiday attire for traditional high tea ($25), which will be served at 3 p.m. Reservations are required. Call 816-524-0057.
